Intro Taxonomy + 8 New Videos

IntroCave Updates

Tags: check. Categories: check. But how many different kinds of videos are there on IntroCave?

Intro Taxonomy

As I create more video templates for IntroCave, I'm starting to see patterns. Though I primarily build intro videos (IntroCave is an intro maker, after all!), there are a few other types of videos on the site. Moving forward, you'll see more consistent titles to help you find the type of video you're looking for:

  • TEMPLATE Logo - A logo reveal.
  • TEMPLATE Text - A single text title reveal (a text equivalent of a logo reveal).
  • TEMPLATE Titles - A sequence of text titles. The current titles on the site are anywhere from 4-10 texts, but I'm going to shoot for around 5 going forward.
  • TEMPLATE Hybrid - A hybrid of Titles and Logo. These templates will typically have 2-3 text titles followed by a logo.
  • TEMPLATE Gallery - A template featuring full-size images, typically closed with a logo.

There's still room for fuzziness within all of these videos. Sometimes the logo reveals have subtitles, sometimes they don't. The Epic Fantasy Titles below are the first title sequence on IntroCave where the titles have subtitles (I think). There are other types of videos (ads, lower thirds, quotes), but these are the 5 that I'm going to be most focused on with IntroCave. If I can continue to add 4-8 videos per month, having consistent naming will be helpful!

Server Updates

I was pulling some stats for the August newsletter and was actually kind of floored. In July, IntroCave rendered over 80,000 preview videos (not counting the ones sent through the new system). That's over 200 hours of preview videos!

I continue to make good progress on the new render servers. I've got about 50% of the preview videos flowing through the new setup, and the early results are very promising. Most video templates are rendering in about half the time, and I firmly believe that preview render time has a direct impact on conversion rates.

I have to get at least a few neon colors in each month. This one has a bit of a disco vibe, though.

it me

IntroCave is a one-person-show operated by Will Hankinson, but it's not 100% accurate to say every word is written by me. Some articles were live on the site when I took over. I hire writers from time to time to work on specific articles. People keep asking me to do guest posts, but I haven't actually seen any relevant submissions yet. "IntroCave staff" might make a better by-line, but currently that's just me. I've been building digital things for 10+ years now, and some of my favorite projects are posted over at my personal website if you want to take a look!

Feedback

If you've got any thoughts you'd like to share about this post (or anything IntroCave related), you can use this feedback form to send me an email! You're not signing up for an account or opting in to any kind of email list, and you could just as easily go type "support@introcave.com" into your email client of choice. But I LOVE getting feedback, so if this form helps people get over the hurdle, I'm all for it!
