We Survived 2020, New Gaming Videos, and IntroCave Drops

If you're reading this, we did it! We survived 2020! Go ahead and pat yourself on the back.

Despite its (few) ups and (lots of) downs, 2020 was a pretty good year for IntroCave.

I get asked for free videos a lot. I usually decline them, mostly because it's just not scalable. HD videos take a long time to render and it takes me a minute or two to create a coupon for a free render.

But it bugs me. I wish I could do more to support people who can't purchase videos. When I finally get around to building Intro Maker, it will likely have a generous free tier.

Introducing: IntroCave Drops.

IntroCave Drops

While it would be awesome if I could give away free custom intros without going broke, I've had a thought lingering in my brain for over a year: Not every video needs to be custom to be useful.

I actually registered a domain for this idea in 2019, but I never got around to building it. While making a gif for the newsletter this month, the idea bubbled back up to the front of my brain. What if... I didn't actually build anything? What if I just rendered a bunch of videos and threw them up on a static page for anyone to grab?

Whether I add more video content to that page over time will depend on how much traffic that page gets. If I get good feedback on it, I can someday build out a more complicated system with filters and search... but I don't need any of that to launch.

We'll see how it goes!

You can preview ALL of the new intro videos in my monthly intro reel on YouTube. If you're reading this, you should subscribe to my channel!

it me

IntroCave is a one-person-show operated by Will Hankinson, but it's not 100% accurate to say every word is written by me. Some articles were live on the site when I took over. I hire writers from time to time to work on specific articles. People keep asking me to do guest posts, but I haven't actually seen any relevant submissions yet. "IntroCave staff" might make a better by-line, but currently that's just me. I've been building digital things for 10+ years now, and some of my favorite projects are posted over at my personal website if you want to take a look!

Feedback

If you've got any thoughts you'd like to share about this post (or anything IntroCave related), you can use this feedback form to send me an email! You're not signing up for an account or opting in to any kind of email list, and you could just as easily go type "support@introcave.com" into your email client of choice. But I LOVE getting feedback, so if this form helps people get over the hurdle, I'm all for it!
